Ex-car salesman Peter Sauber, and also the respected privateer team owner from Switzerland, referred to the pace of the Mercedes at the second test in Barcelona as “a clear exclamation mark” while the Ferrari’s were “not far away”.
Based on the times seen in Barcelona, some feel that the top four teams this weekend will not include the Austrian energy drinks company. The three time world champion’s only posted a fastest time on one out of the twelve days available for winter testing, with Vettel not being featured on top even once.
But the 69 year old Sauber, writing in the Sonntagsblick newspaper was very clear about how competitive he thinks Red Bull will be this weekend. “Anyone who concludes that they are not right at the front are definitely in for a nasty surprise. The have so many resources that they can always respond to difficult situations. You will see.” he said.
